Ideal climatic conditions make Gran Canaria a perfect golfing destination, with the possibility of practicing your favourite sport 365 days a year. An added bonus is that most of the golf courses on the island are new, which means you’ll find modern courses conceived with the most demanding players very much in mind.

There are currently 8 golf courses in Gran Canaria each and every one built by the most prestigious of international golf-course designers. Experts rate many of these courses as some of the best in Spain.

Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas:
Founded by British expatriates in 1891, the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas is actually the oldest golf course in all Spain. Situated south of the Pico de Bandama, this course boasts wonderful views over Caldera de Bandama, a spectacular volcanic crater.

Designed by Mackenzie Ross, this is a par-71, 18-hole course, with two putting greens, practice tee, pitching green, instructors, pro-shop, club hire service, restaurant and an excellent wine cellar. There are also two tennis courts, a horse-riding area and a swimming pool.

Location: Carretera de Bandama s/n 35380 Santa Brígida

Las Palmeras Golf:
Designed by Antonio García Garrido, this par-54, 18-hole course opened in 2006. Offering a convenient city-centre location, Las Palmeras enjoys views over Canteras beach and the surging Atlantic.

Rounding off the golfing facilities are a 1000m2 putting green and a sizeable chipping area too. The children’s area and nursery will come in handy for those with kids. There’s also a snack bar, restaurant and terrace.

El Cortijo de Campo:
This course has been the venue for important international championships, as well as the centre for the Peugeot Oki Tour and the Professional Senior and Women’s Spanish Championships. Designed by Blake Stirling (head designer of Pete Dye) and Marco Martín, this par-72, 18-hole course features fast greens and, with up to six tees per hole, offers great variety and sufficient difficulty. It also boasts six lakes and more than 600 century-old palm trees surrounding them. Other facilities include a golf school, practice course, chipping green, putting green and practice bunker, as well as a service for the hire of carts, bags and clubs.

Oasis Golf:
Experts consider this 18-hole, par-54 course, a miniaturised replica of famous American courses, to be one of the best in the world. Several obstacles, such as spectacular lakes and sand bunkers, form a marvellous contrast to the green lushness of this course. As the only floodlit course in Gran Canaria, Oasis Golf encourages visiting golfers to play at night too when temperatures are – especially in summer times – more bearable. It also houses a pro-shop, restaurant, bag and club hire, as well as a children’s nursery.

Maspalomas Golf:
When Mackenzie Ross came to designing this course, he took into account the surrounding dunes. As a result, Maspalomas Golf offers an extremely long and flat course with lengthy, wide lanes. Even on the hottest days, the proximity of the sea and the mild breezes cooled by the trade winds, make a visit to this course an unforgettable experience.

This 18-hole, par-73 course plays host to a number of prestigious international competitions, and boasts a practice green, driving range, instructors, facilities for the hire of carts, bags and clubs, shop, restaurant and snack bars.

Salobre Golf & Resort:
You’ll find Salobre Golf, one of the newest golf clubs in Gran Canaria, set in a magnificent scenery with ravines and volcanic landscapes typical of the south of the island. Indeed, the lush greenery of the course forms a strong contrast to its surroundings.

Designed by Roland Fauré, the interesting and demanding par-71, 18-hole Salobre Sur course covers a length of 6 km. The trickier Salobre Norte, also known as the Beast Course and designed by Ron Kirby, likewise features 18 holes but is par-72. This complex’s facilities include a golf school, practice area, driving range, putting green, club hire, hydro-massage, pro-shop and restaurant with terrace.

Anfi Tauro Golf:
You’ll find Anfi Tauro Golf in the municipality of Mogán, on the south side of the island. Featuring a 9-hole, par 27 pitch-and-putt course, opened in 2001, and a newer 18-hole par-72 course, this club is set in stunning surroundings.  Boasting spectacular lakes of crystal-clear water and a wide variety of plants and flowers, it also affords magnificent views of the mountains. Apart from a putting green and a practice area, there’s a cafeteria and driving range.

Meloneras Golf:
This beautiful golf course runs alongside the Meloneras Bay in the south of the island and was designed by Ron Kirby. Featuring an 18-hole, par-71 course with 9 holes offering stunning mountain views and the other 9 look over the ocean. The design of the course is very attractive with the holes starting off easy then steadily becoming more difficult. Attention to detail is a big thing for Meloneras Golf – even the golf carts come equipped with GPS!
