Touring East to South - Valsequillo
Before going further south, you should make a small detour towards the centre of the island to visit the picturesque village of Valsequillo. The historic centre and surrounding neighbourhoods tell a lot of this region’s history, witnesses of which are the Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel (church), the former Cuartel de Caballería (Cavalry Headquarters), the district of Tenteniguada at the foot of Roque del Saucillo and the caves of pre-Hispanic origins… just to name some of the points of interest.
From the viewpoint Mirador del Helechal you can enjoy great views over the steep cliffs and plains planted with strawberries and flowers.
This area is also known for its gastronomy, especially for its traditional cheese specialities, wines, strawberries, almonds and other agricultural products, all of which is best bought at the famous Sunday markets.
Very popular fiestas in this region are the Almendrero en Flor (in February when the almond trees are in bloom) or the Fiesta del Caballo (horse fair).
Fresh agricultural products and a tasty cuisine in charming rural surroundings… this is what Valsequillo has to offer!
