Pueblo CanarioOne of the main visitor attractions, the Pueblo Canario (Canarian Village), can be found located within the Parque Doramas. A complex of several traditionally-built island houses with the famous wooden carved balconies form a typical Canarian village with gates, turrets and an atrium.
Designed in the 1930s by the brothers Néstor and Miguel Fernandez de la Torre to interest tourists in native culture, this village boasts a large central square – where twice a week enthusiastic folklore shows take place – surrounded by shops selling local handicrafts and the Bodegón Canario, where you can sample several dishes of the typical Canarian cuisine, washed down with generous supplies of local wine. There’s also the Museo Néstor, dedicated to life and works of the modernist artist Néstor de la Torre, the better known of the two brothers, and the Centre of Tourist Initiatives. A pretty and very relaxed place in the heart of a big city, the Pueblo Canario’s well worth a visit. Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday 10.00 to 20.00 hrs – Sunday 10.30 to 14.30 hrs Location: Parque Doramas – City of Las Palmas |
