Bordered to the east by Santa Catalina and to the north by La Isleta, you'll find the district of Playa de las Canteras, Gran Canaria’s very first tourist resort. Here you’ll find lots of hotels, offices, shops, restaurants, bars and… one of Spain’s best urban beaches – the Playa de las Canteras – from which this district takes its name.

At the southern end of Playa de las Canteras, a formerly quite neglected area, a landscaped promenade leads to the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, a masterpiece of modern architecture and home to the Las Palmas Philharmonic Orchestra.
Built in 1997 as a tribute to the famous Canarian tenor Alfredo Kraus, this building, which also incorporates the Canary Islands Convention Centre, was designed by Catalan architect, Óscar Tusquets, and Canarian sculptor, Juan Bordes.
Constructed in solid natural stone, the Auditorio boasts, in total, ten concert halls (one big concert hall and nine smaller ones) serves as a venue for operas and concerts, as well as the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival and the Canary Islands Classical Music Festival.

This area also boasts the city’s biggest shopping centre, Las Arenas, with a wide range of shops, a mouth-watering selection of restaurants and snack bars, as well as a multi-screen cinema.
