For many years, the Yumbo Centrum has been the epicentre of nightlife and entertainment with over 50 venues including bars, restaurants, nightclubs and cabaret shows. Originally one of the island’s first commercial centres, it is a multi-level shopping complex by day, full of boutiques and tourist outlets; at night, the place really comes alive and is bustling with plenty music and dancing. Colourful rainbow flags are proudly displayed, vivacious drag queens perform in bars and the mood is open, friendly and very welcoming. Every year in May, Gay Pride Maspalomas is celebrated in and around the area of the Yumbo Centrum. It all started in 2001 as a way of honouring the island’s gay community and similar parades are held worldwide. The week-long festivities include singers, performers and internationally renowned DJs, culminating in a large carnival procession on the last day. Visitors from all over the world travel to Gran Canaria to take part and soak up the atmosphere.
For a relaxing time in the sun, head to the beautiful beaches and sand dunes of Maspalomas. The popular nudist beach is near Bar 7.
