Playa de las Canteras is a huge stretch of golden sand located right in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. More than 3 kilometres long, it is a popular choice for tourists as well as residents of the city and is protected by a natural reef called La Barra. This allows visitors to enjoy a swim in tranquil waters while surfers ride the waves in the south tip. People flock to this fantastic beach because it has ideal conditions for all kinds of water sports, provides a safe sandy environment for families and is simply a great place to relax in the sunshine.

The area south of Playa de las Canteras, where the natural rock barrier finishes, is also known as La Cicer. This spot is packed with shops selling all kinds of water sports equipment and accessories, as well as surf schools offering advice, courses and camps for all levels of experience. Along the beach is the bustling Paseo de las Canteras promenade where you will find lots of shops, open-air restaurants, snack bars and cafés. Sit and enjoy some tapas, people-watch over a cool drink and be amused by the street entertainers.

If you are looking for a metropolitan city experience, complemented by a beautiful beach, then Spain-Grancanaria highly recommends a stay in the deluxe five-star Hotel Santa Catalina, which is close to Playa de las Canteras. A free shuttle service runs from the hotel to the beach every day, so all you need to do is pack a beach bag and go. We also recommend two other exceptional hotels which are very close to Playa de las Canteras AC Hotel Gran Canaria and Hotel Cristina Las Palmas.
