At the beginning of June 2017, Portuguese airline TAP started two new routes, with a daily flight, from Lisbon to Gran Canaria and Alicante that, together with the reinforcement of the existing route between Porto and Madrid, has improved connections between both countries this year by 10% and increased weekly flights to Spanish airports from 175 to 193.

Besides Gran Canaria and Alicante, TAP already flies to other Spanish cities, namely Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Málaga, Valencia, Bilbao, La Coruña, Oviedo and Vigo.

As the leading airline in the connections between the two Iberian countries, TAP has transported 1.2 million passengers between Portuguese and Spanish airports in 2016, 18% more than in 2015.
